I own practically all the 1963 Sea-Gull editions, as well as a few watches created by Seagull Tsinlien before Sea-Gull Tianjin launched its own models—and for this reason I consider them authentic—and, aesthetically, they are indeed very, very similar. The ST 1901 movement is certainly more refined in the special editions, the resistance of the pulsators is sharper, the winding wheel is smoother and the movement is more homogeneous. But when you look at them, the 1963s are essentially all the same.
The Times Edition is certainly an exception to this rule. Its larger, yet still very "vintage" dimensions for a chronograph, the recessed sub-indices with concentric decoration that gives it depth and three-dimensionality, and the larger and more comfortable-to-operate winding wheel make the Times Edition a very special 1963.
For the record, none of the Seagull 1963s, neither the legitimate ones from Tianjin nor the authentic ones from Tsienlin, are entirely faithful copies of the D304 project prototype, which never actually went into production. The 37.3 mm case is closer to the original than the 40 mm of the Times Edition, but the latter's sub-indices, as well as its steel caseback, are more faithful than those of the other editions. Aesthetically, the Times Edition is certainly a more refined watch, which is reflected in its price. In my opinion, it's worth it.

Despite costing far less, the Seagull 1963 Times Edition impresses with its solid build, smooth chronograph action, and vintage charm. Compared to my TAG Heuer and Longines, it feels surprisingly refined — the finishing, movement response, and overall character easily surpass expectations for its price. A true hidden gem for mechanical watch lovers.
