FAQ
Seagull Rattrapante Chronograph
A regular chronograph has one central seconds hand for timing a single event. A split-seconds/rattrapante chronograph has two superimposed central seconds hands. Using an independent pusher, one hand (the split-seconds hand) can be stopped to record an intermediate time (e.g., a lap time), while the other (the main chronograph hand) continues running, allowing for the timing of multiple events.
Operation Procedure:
Start: Press the pusher at 2 o'clock. Both seconds hands start together.
Split Time: Press the split-seconds pusher at 10 o'clock. The split-seconds hand stops, while the main chronograph hand continues. Read the intermediate time.
Catch-up: Press the 10 o'clock pusher again. The split-seconds hand instantly catches up to the main hand.
Stop: Press the 2 o'clock pusher again. Both hands stop.
Reset: Press the pusher at 4 o'clock to return all chronograph hands to zero.
Compared to stainless steel, Grade 5 titanium on Seagull Rattrapante is harder, significantly lighter (approximately 40%), and offers superior wear comfort. It is also highly corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
The frequency refers to the number of oscillations the balance wheel makes per hour. 21,600 vph means it beats 6 times per second (3Hz). This is considered a "low frequency" in mechanical watches, which can showcase the mechanical rhythm beautifully while providing a smooth seconds hand sweep and offering a power reserve of approximately 45 hours when fully wound.
This watch typically offers 50 meters of water resistance, suitable for daily use like hand washing or rain splashes. It is not intended for swimming, diving, or showering.
Yes, the packaging list specifies an "Alligator Strap," indicating it is crafted from genuine alligator leather, known for its unique pattern, durability, and luxurious feel.
The rattrapante complication is one of the most complex in watchmaking, typically found only in extremely expensive timepieces from high-end brands. By utilizing its in-house developed ST1961 movement, Seagull offers this top-tier complication at an accessible price point, allowing more watch enthusiasts to experience haute horology, hence its reputation for outstanding value.
Yes. The ST1961 is a manual-winding movement. As the power reserve depletes (after approx. 45 hours), you will need to wind the watch fully by turning the crown to ensure accurate timekeeping.
